Arise Magazine - Issue 20 - 2011 - Editorial

Editorial

It is with great pleasure that I launch Issue 20 which till date probably has the most varied and talented contributors of all AM editions. This year’s theme and our scripture text certainly connotes warfare but one in which a master combatant brandishes a weapon, confident in his ability to bring about a desired result through it.

“With you I WILL...” is repeated in each of verses 20 -23 and is resoundingly emphatic and doughty. As I pondered this depiction, I visualised misanthropists questioning the relevance and choice of scripture especially in our contemporaryand ‘peaceable’ 21st century society. Surely battle-axes and in fact the scripture belong to an era long extinct I ‘heard’ as I sat in front of my laptop twiddling my mouse. As I pensively contemplated this viewpoint, I becameaware of a ‘news flash’ on the screen; “murder of teen as bad as it gets...” A cursory read of the article revealed that yet another 16 year old had been stabbed in South London “in broad day light”. Not extraordinary, some might argue, given the apparent persistence of such mishaps in our increasingly self-indulgent, lenient “contemporary” society. Asocial order in which “children” rule and truth is daily rebuffed.

I however daresay that majority of us would draw the line on the sanctity of a life made in the image of the invisible God... Click here to download the full magazine.
