Who are OFNC 18-30s?
Since its reformation in 2006, the 18-30s has evolved into a vibrant, expanding community of young adults, with active participation at branch and national level, and an ever-increasing online presence, currently boasting around 700 members on Facebook. The 18-30s sits as a sub-group within the OFNC and exists to satisfy the broad interests of our members within the age-group (i.e. eighteen (18) to thirty-nine (39) year olds). As a group, we aim to contribute to the fellowship, by showing leadership and initiative at branch levels and informing the strategy and direction of growth of the fellowship at national level in order to meet the OFNC’s objectives.
What is our vision?
Our vision can be embodied in the word IMPACT
Identity; understanding who we are in Christ
Mentor; building ourselves up so we can be effective in building up the youth arm of the fellowship
Promote/Persuade; good character, righteous living, evangelistic events & a solid prayer life
Action through ability; fundraising for charitable causes locally, national and internationally.
Communication through culture; knowing where we come from and embracing the best of what our culture has to offer and learning how our culture impacts us and interacts with our faith
Teaching and training; edifying ourselves with the Word so we can in turn be effective disciples of Christ
In every activity we undertake we challenge ourselves by asking:
• How can we IMPACT our lives?
• How can we IMPACT our peers/generation?
• How can we IMPACT the younger generation?
• How can we IMPACT OFNC for the better?
Currently in our second term, the 18-30s is co-chaired by Deji Jaiyesimi and Olaolu Baikie, supported by a dedicated committee of volunteers who commit their time and boundless energy to assist us in various capacities – including publicity, event management (at branch and national levels), prayer and our annual Connect conference.
Together we collectively endeavour to fulfil the OFNC objective of advancing the Christian faith within our generation.
To this end we’ve recently established pastoral care and youth liaison teams; with the latter aimed at providing support and mentoring to the youth in the OFNC, and ultimately bridging the gap between youth and 18-30s’ ministries. The prayer team meets once a month to pray concerning the fellowship, as well as any prayer requests we receive. Prayer requests can be sent to [email protected] and is open to all in the age group.
We are always looking for passionate individuals who would like to join the wider team, and assist us in the continued expansion of the 18-30s’ fellowship. We are currently seeking a Technical Officer Coordinator to oversee the organisation of sound and stage set-up at our events. If you would like to find out more about this role; interested in becoming a mentor or serving on the prayer team; or perhaps suggesting other roles and capacities in which you serve, please enquire with us at [email protected]
We regularly stage events throughout the calendar year; starting in January with “FIRST WE PRAY”, a nationally coordinated prayer gathering, through to December where we host various activities and socials to celebrate the festive period. Most of our activities within the year utilise the best that current technology has to offer – Video Skype, conference calls, etc. to ensure we can “see” and talk to one another nationally without always leaving our local branches! Our members are also actively involved with other ministries within the wider fellowship: Children’s, Youth, Women and Men’s groups. They have also accompanied the fellowship on mission trips, more recently to Hungary to witness to a group of predominantly Nigerian Christians, and play a significant role in the various worship groups within the OFNC.
What is the Connect?
‘Connect’ is an annual residential conference exclusively for 18-30s. It is now held around the end of February/beginning of March each year (previously 3rd weekend in November). We have experienced and enjoyed significant growth in the attendance of this event since its inception. It is a great opportunity to relax, unwind, network and engage with other like-minded individuals, whilst participating in thought-provoking seminars and discussions. So why not come along and join us!!
